Why Some Cosmetic Dentistry Looks Obvious and Some Does Not

What Style Italiano™ Dentistry Actually Is
Style Italiano™ is not a product or a brand of porcelain. It is a school of technique, founded in Milan and taught through hands-on courses that dentists travel to Italy to complete. Its influence runs through modern esthetic dentistry worldwide.
Three ideas define it.
Preserve the tooth first
Conventional veneer preparation often removes a significant layer of enamel around the whole tooth. The Style Italiano™ approach starts from the opposite question: what is the least we can remove and still deliver the result? In practice that means many cases need only a fraction of a millimeter of reduction, and some need none at all. Enamel does not grow back, so what is preserved now protects the tooth for decades.
Match how light behaves, not just shade
Real enamel is translucent at the biting edge and more opaque near the gum. It picks up color from the tooth beneath it. A veneer that is one flat shade from top to bottom will match on a shade chart and still look wrong on a face. Style Italiano™ technique builds that gradient in deliberately, which is why the results read as natural in daylight and in photographs.
Design around the face, not the tooth
Tooth length, midline, and the curve of the smile are judged against your lip line, your gum line, and your face at rest as well as smiling. A tooth that is correct in isolation can be wrong in a face. This is the part that is artistic rather than technical, and it is where experience shows.
What It Means for Your Smile
Two dentists using identical porcelain and the same laboratory can produce very different smiles. Here is where the difference actually appears.
- Less of your tooth is removed. Minimal preparation, and in suitable cases no preparation at all. Your own tooth stays largely intact beneath the porcelain.
- The result does not announce itself. Friends notice you look well. They generally do not work out why.
- Less sensitivity. Preserved enamel means fewer patients report the lingering cold sensitivity associated with heavier preparation.
- Better long-term prognosis. A conservatively prepared tooth has more structure left for whatever it may need in twenty years.
- Reversibility in some cases. Where no enamel is removed, the option to change course later is preserved.

Dr. Oleg Borshch
Dr. Borshch has been designing smiles on Kings Highway since 1998, with more than 25 years focused on porcelain veneers, cosmetic bonding, and full smile makeovers. He has published on cosmetic technique in national and international dental journals, and his work on the one-visit smile makeover was selected as continuing education material studied by dentists across the country. He is known for taking on cases other practices have declined.
Dr. Diana Krinker
Dr. Krinker holds the same Style Italiano™ certification and adds advanced training in orthodontics and periodontal care. When a cosmetic case needs gum contouring or minor tooth movement before the porcelain goes on, that work happens here rather than through an outside referral. Is Style Italiano™ a type of veneer?
No. It is a school of technique for how cosmetic work is prepared, designed, and finished. It applies to veneers, bonding, and smile makeovers rather than being a separate product you choose.
Does it cost more than conventional cosmetic dentistry?
Cost is driven by the number of teeth, the porcelain and ceramist used, and the complexity of the case rather than by the technique itself. You will receive a written estimate at your consultation.
Can I get veneers with no tooth preparation at all?
Sometimes. It depends on the starting position, shape, and thickness of your teeth. Where a no-preparation case is possible we will tell you, and where forcing one would compromise the result we will tell you that too.
Will people be able to tell I have had work done?
That is the entire point of the approach. The goal is a smile that reads as yours, only refined. You will approve a design preview before any porcelain is made.

I was told my case was too complex for cosmetic work. Is it worth a second opinion?
